First in Class: Viveau is the First Sparkling Beverage in North America to Receive Clean Label Project™ Certification

From crisp apple cider to wild blueberry and every flavour in between, the demand for sparkling beverages is on the rise. In a recent report, the global sparkling-water market size was already valued at over $24.51 billion USD — and it’s expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 11.8% from now until 2027.

What’s driving this demand? From government studies to market analysis reports, the evidence is clear: Consumers want healthy alternatives to traditional fruit juices, carbonated sodas, and other types of sugary drinks. But it’s not just the high sugar content that causes concern.

Leaded or Unleaded: What’s in Your Tank?

Along with an increase in consumption, it’s increasingly, and unfortunately, common for toxins like heavy metals, pesticides, and plasticizers to be found in our everyday food products by way of contamination (not to mention artificial colouring and sweeteners).

According to the World Health Organization, common contaminants from industrial processes like dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) can cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones, and cause cancer.

Additionally, heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury which come into contact with foods by way of water, soil, and air pollution also have serious effects including causing neurological and kidney damage.

So how do you know for sure if the food and beverages you’re consuming are truly safe?

Enter the Clean Label Project™.

Clean Label = Certified Safe

A national nonprofit with the mission to bring truth and transparency to food and consumer product labeling, the Clean Label Project™ (CLP) tests for over 400 contaminants, including heavy metals, bisphenol (BPA/BPS), 300+ pesticides, and plasticizers.

CLP tests consumer products like beverages, snack foods, baby food, and sport supplements, for these contaminants. If tested products meet the standards set out by CLP, they are then eligible for awards and certifications that can be used to market their products and educate consumers on this emerging standard of product safety.

“Clean Label Project evaluates products for heavy metals, pesticide residues, and plasticizers,” says Todd Woloson, Clean Label Project Board Member. “What’s amazing about Viveau is that they check all the CLP guidelines while tasting fantastic.”

Safety Thirst: Truth, Transparency & Taste

This past September, VIVEAU became the first sparkling beverage in North America to receive Clean Label Project™ Certification. With this expert, independent third-party designation, you can be assured that VIVEAU’s ingredients, processing, and final products are rigorously tested at every stage to ensure the highest quality and safety possible.

As Viveau co-founder and CEO Ted Grant says, “We want to help our drinkers live their best life, and challenge the status quo of what’s currently available in the marketplace. Viveau is just pressed fruit and sparkling water, and this Certification is another way we are committed to demonstrating our truth and transparency with everything we do.” The fact that Viveau also tastes delicious is the (wild) cherry on top.
